Story
This mod is a retelling of the Star Wars Expanded Universe story, Shadows of the Empire (also referred to as 'SOTE'). This chain of events takes place between Episode V: The Empire Strikes Back and Episode VI: Return of the Jedi.
Players will control Dash Rendar as he helps the Rebels track down the captured Han Solo, guide Luke Skywalker on his path to Jedi Knighthood, hunt for survival as Boba Fett, and battle the inner demons as Darth Vader. You'll man the guns of the Millennium Falcon. If you can prove you have what it takes, you'll take control of Dash Rendar's modified YT-2400 freighter, The Outrider, and save the Rebels from the Shadows of the Empire.
Characters
In Shadows of the Empire, the player will revisit many of the classic Star Wars characters that are in the movies and other Expanded Universe titles. These are people like Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Leia Organa, Darth Vader, Emperor Palpatine, and Boba Fett.
However, in Shadows of the Empire, many of the background characters from the movies take a front step. In Empire Strikes Back, we see the bounty hunters Bossk, Zuckuss, 4-LOM, and IG-88 play a minor role. The SOTE storyline expands upon those characters. In addition, new characters are introduced, unique to the SOTE storyline. During the Shadows of the Empire time period, Han Solo is frozen in carbonite. Therefore, a new rogue smuggler was introduced: Dash Rendar.
While a new hero was created, a new villain was also introduced. The movies have established that the Force allows one to be super-human, regardless if he/she is good or evil. For one to be without the Force, yet have similarly super-human power and reflexes, would require extreme skill and dedication. The character of Prince Xizor exemplifies these traits. Xizor is not Force-sensitive. However what he lacks in supernatural ability, he more than makes up for with cunning and will. In Prince Xizor, the writers of the Shadows of the Empire story created an enemy equally as evil and powerful as Darth Vader.
